Why
We are direct witnesses to human rights violations and police brutality at the hands of ICE and the current federal administration. An asinine demand of 3000 arrests across the country per day since June of last year has deteriorated American metropolitan areas and suburbs alike.
Keith Porter was shot by an off-duty ICE agent on New Year's Eve, just outside his apartment. The DHS's narrative contradicts eyewitness reports.
Renee Nicole Good was shot at point-blank inside her own car as she tried to drive around ICE troop activity. The DHS has called her a domestic terrorist.
Alex Jeffrey Pretti was shot in the skull after already being pinned down by 6 ICE agents for attempting to defend a woman from ICE harrassment, dumping 10 rounds into his body. The DHS's press news confrence narrative directly contradicts 5 separate video evidence accounts of his murder.
California, specifically the SF Bay Area, has been under scrutiny by the current administration in order to expand Immigrations and Customs Enforcement Operations for several months.
We cannot depend on sole city and state officials to defend us and our communities from this blatant paramilitary occupation and state violence. We must take it upon ourselves to reach out to each other and the greater national stage, /before/ more people are murdered with impunity. No one will come to protect us from the horrors. We are it.

Rumors
It was rumored that ICE showed up at Carlmont's administrative office and requested access. This has been confirmed to be false by administration.
Your rights in terms of attendance
Administration is aware of this event.
California Education Code 48205 (part 12) protects students' right to one excused abscence per school year for a civic or political event, and allows for approval of additional excused absences at school administration's discretion if the student notifies the school prior. District regulation 5113 (and policy) implement that one protected excused absence for political or civic events and requires prior notification.
Pursuant to district policy 6154, you are entitled to a reasonable chance to make up work missed during an excused absence, and teachers must provide a "reasonably equivalent... assignment or test" to be completed in a reasonable amount of time.
Disclaimer
Some people are worried about the permanent record of participation left in the attendance record. If you are worried about it, do not call in advance. It is very likely that you will still be able to make up work.
Steps you should take if you plan to go
School-related
- If you wish to: notify the school a day prior at the very least.
- Whether or not you excuse the absence, let your 5th-7th teacher(s) know in advance that you will be gone.
- Plan makeup work accordingly.
Non-school-related general protest tips
-
Don't bring valuables.
-
Bring a charged recording device.
-
Wear a mask or face covering, preferably patterned or confusingly colored (facial recognition is a thing). There will be people handing some out.
-
Do not bring arms.
-
Wear athletic clothing (including footwear).
-
Bring water.
-
Make sure someone who's not going knows where you are.
-
Research your damn rights.
-
If you don't wish to bring your backpack, leave it in your locker if you have one. Alternatively, pack as light as possible on Friday.
